“What’s the best blood you’ve ever tasted?”
Mike can’t believe Vicki asked it, but even more, he can’t believe he’s waiting for the answer.
“Blood of a virgin!” Coreen guesses.
“Complete myth,” Henry says.
“Really?” Coreen sounds disappointed.
“Unless you’re a unicorn.”
Mike hides his smile, as much from Henry as from the girls, because Mike and Henry do not agree on anything. Ever. Even teasing Vicki and Coreen.
Henry closes his eyes as he remembers. “There was this pregnant woman, once . . . .”
Mike can’t help himself. “You fed from a pregnant woman?”
Henry’s eyes open and he stares right at Mike. “But she wasn’t the best.”
Mike’s skin suddenly feels tight and hot.
“Menstrual blood is thick and rich,” Henry says and both Vicki and Coreen grimace and say, “Euww!”
Mike can tell that Henry’s purposely trying to gross them out, keep them from pursuing that line of questioning, so he says, “That’s the best?”
“No,” Henry replies.
“I’m afraid to ask.” Mike’s throat closes around the words.
“You should be,” Henry says, eyes sliding over Mike’s body like a hot caress, and Mike once again feels the sting as Henry’s fangs break his skin, the pleasure he can’t forget.
